PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

3 1/2 story, 6390 S.F., wood/steel-framed, single-family residence with 1420 S.F. garage having additional living quarters above.

STRUCTURAL DESIGN FEATURES:

The success of this project hinged on careful coordination between Hicks Engineering and Acanthus Architects, communicating across the country to develop the construction documents. Several challenges characterized this project, including designing for a steep sloping site, high snow and seismic loads, tall concrete foundation walls, numerous footing steps, and a tall retaining wall for a motor court. The architect conceived a gorgeous house plan with numerous windows to maximize east views from the lot which required the design of a 2-story steel moment frame. Hicks Engineering met the challenge from the architect to develop a highly-detailed set of construction drawings congruent with the high level of design detail developed by the architect.
